About this poem: Every so often a poem knocks on my heart and asks to be written.  This one knocked today.

About this poem: The inspiration for this poem admittedly is from Stargate and the Jack/Sam relationship.  It was written for my first Gateworld Sam/Jack Ship Day.

Sweet Like Chocolate )

About this poem: 'Twinkle, twinkle, little star' was my inspiration here for the rhyme but this poem is all about wanting to be loved in all its forms; physical, emotional and spiritual.

About this poem: This is one of the few poems that I wrote when I was younger that I keep in my back catalogue.  I just think it's so much fun and yes, the dance described is as old as time.

About this poem: This was written during my first spell with chronic fatigue where everything seemed such an effort including just living.

Journey

About this poem: The first line came to me when I was trying to think up a light and fluffy love poem but this one didn't want to go there and I ended up with something very different.  For me, it's describing a spiritual journey through life but is it mine?  Maybe not!

I love you

About this poem: I guess everyone remembers where they were on 9/11.  I was working from home and wandered downstairs to watch a TV show with lunch only to see the news.  The first tower had just been hit.  I watched as the second tower was hit...as they fell.  It was truly one of the most horrifying and compelling moments of my life, yet what really touched me emotionally during the aftermath was the stories of how many had called to say one last goodbye to their loved ones.  This poem was written that week and it was one I needed to write, that knocked on my heart until it was written.

I love you )

About this poem: In memory of my mother.  She died of cancer five years ago.  She was a strong influence in my life.

I don't understand )
rachel500: (NewRachel500)
About this poem: This really evolved from a situation where a really good friend professed love which was so not what I wanted to hear (or expected) and the second being my own recognition that perhaps one of the reasons why I didn't want to hear it was because of my own fears about love and relationships.

Don't Say That You Love Me )

About this poem: I actually quite like dabbling into religious poetry.  My first ever real success at poetry as a nine-year old child was an Easter poem.  This isn't it but it was an attempt as an adult to do something around Easter again.

About this poem: Like many women, I was told in my twenties that I would find it difficult to conceive and this was a blow to me as I always wanted to be a mother.  I'm still childless but that has more to do with my continued singledom that any fertility issues but as I get older, the dream of having a child seems further and further away...

My arms ache
for the weight of a baby.

My mind's eye
sees my study transformed:
bright colours,
toys piled high,
a rocking chair,
a waiting crib.

Empty arms.
Empty room.
Empty womb.

About this poem: I entered this in a competition for Valentine poems and came nowhere!  But I love this poem and it's story of a broken relationship.
