I haven't done a year review of my writing since 2016 so this will focus briefly on writing to date and then refocus on what I intend to do going forward.
In brief for 2017:
Live Wire
A Tony DiNozzo/John Sheppard alternate universe fic which was written for Rough Trade challenge. This challenge asked for a canon character for one universe to be placed in another and so John Sheppard joins NCIS. Lots of cameos from the Stargate cast and an alternative John Sheppard history. It also explored the Dead Air trope of what if Ziva and McGee really were not listening and something happened to Tony.
I personally love this fic and think it's one of my best stories.
For International Fanworks day I published three fics:
Once Upon Another Time - a Harry Potter alternate universe fic.
Candles - a Sam/Jack Stargate SG1 short fic.
Back to Normal - a String/Caitlin Airwolf short fic.
I also posted a chapter of The Dark Horse, a follow up to Perfect Storm for Evil Author's day.
In brief for 2018:
From A to Z
A MCU alternate universe fic for Infinity War and Endgame based on spoilers/trailers and my own wants for what I wanted to happen. Also, a response in part to Civil War. Canon pairings throughout the fic so Tony/Pepper, Steve/Peggy, Wanda/Vision, etc.
Weirdly, its the only thing I published in 2018, although I did write a number of fics in challenges on Rough Trade some of which I have not yet published.
In brief then for 2019:
Part of the Journey is the End Series
My love letter to the end of the MCU following Avengers Endgame. Vignettes for each of the original six Avengers which together paint a picture of what happened from the end of Infinity War through to the end of Endgame.
My favourite MCU Endgame fic which I wrote is
The Benevolent Ruler of the Universe - my love letter to Goose and an alternative ending to Endgame where all of our heroes lived.
One Sentence Prompts and
Thursday Vignettes (16 stories)
I needed some encouragement to get my writing mojo back and to attempt to publish more works so the One Sentence Prompts and Thursday Vignettes on Rough Trade Workshop were a great way to do this, providing prompts for me to work through.
My favourite of the One Sentence Prompts is a John Sheppard/Marshall Sumner Sentinel/Stargate Atlantis fusion fic called
Natural Selection as I think this was the best executed of the seven stories I attempted.
My favourite of the Thursday Vignettes is probably
Power Plays which is a MCU alternative universe where Tony doesn't allow Fury to dictate terms after Iron Man 2.
A Step to the Right
I also completed this Harry/Hermione, Alternative Universe fic which is the first in a series. Previously written for a Rough Trade challenge, I revised and updated it before posting.
I also completed 2 stories doing a Rough Trade challenge back in July, and made a lot of headway on completing The Dark Horse, my follow-up to Perfect Storm. I expect I'll end up posting these stories in early 2020.
Looking Forward 2020:
I have three main projects to complete -
- The Dark Horse - a complete draft is done, I just need to review, revise and publish.
- A Step to the Right - the next part of the series would be my goal in 2020 (approx 60k). I have it plotted but very little written.
- Aftershocks - after a lot of debate with myself, my intent is still to attempt to finish this series - at least till the end of Season 8.
Additionally there are a number of previously completed stories I would like to edit and publish. Beyond that, I'm intending to do The Year of the Sentinel on Rough Trade and I may continue to write some vignettes and short stories.
I would still like to complete the draft on an original work but we'll see how life goes as I start a new job and so will likely be focused in the first part of the year on that to some degree.
Logistics wise...I'm probably at some point next year going to set up my own wordpress site for my writing and transfer all my fics there. I rarely use dreamwidth and while I've left my livejournal active for links, I no longer publish there. I will probably use that site going forward but will leave a link here when its up.
