About this poem: This is one of the few poems that I wrote when I was younger that I keep in my back catalogue. I just think it's so much fun and yes, the dance described is as old as time.
In my head I hear the music
In my heart I feel the beat
And soon my soul is singing
Whilst my body feels the heat
I wrap my arms around you
Will your heart belong to me?
The dance that we're beginning
Has always been our destiny
We move together slowly
We advance and then retreat
I can feel your heart is pounding
An unsteady racing beat
Our bodies soon become slick
Our hands reach out to grip
As the rhythm takes us over
Our defenses fall and slip
Soon there is no thought involved
The dance becomes our all
As the music becomes crescendo
We can just enjoy the fall
But now the dance is over
We may turn and walk away
And know the music's written
To dance again some day.
